Aglow At Sunset

If I lived near the Grand Canyon or, say Yellowstone, I’m sure inspiration would come easily, and I’d do my best to communicate the area’s splendor in my paintings. That said, in my opinion we are surrounded by that same world-class beauty here on the Pacific Northwest Coast and in Cannon Beach specifically. So, inspiration constantly shines through. While it’s nearly impossible to miss the grandeur of our famous sea stack known worldwide as “Haystack Rock”, the ever-present “Needles” added a couple of exclamation points to this composition. The ethereal, glowing salt air, rock-solid basalt, both mirrored in tidepools, just cried out to be painted. Yet another vibrant sunset on the Oregon coast stopped me in my tracks. All that was left to do was paint it.
