Bay Bound Nurse Log
It would be interesting to know just how long some of these old logs have been floating around inside the bay. I’ve observed some for over 40 years as I’ve contemplated painting them. They are one of many things that say “Pacific Northwest” to me.
Nurse Logs are a bit like a tiny island that occasionally, on exceptionally high tides associated with heavy rainfall, simply float away in silence to a new location with little or no damage done. As they decompose over time their nutrient rich “soil” provides a start for the next generation.
