Deep Into Sunset
We get more clear, beautiful winter weather than people realize, and the crab boats utilize it to run their gear and fill their holds with Dungeness crab. I’ve been inching my way toward this painting for quite awhile and to be honest I wasn’t sure it would “work”. The inspiration started the night of January 17th, 1991. That probably seems like an arbitrary, unnecessary bit of information but it was memorable for one dramatic reason. In America we heard the news that bombing had begun in the Gulf War. I remember driving home along the pacific on a clear evening with the crab fleet out at sea and thinking how GOOD life is here compared to so many places in this beautiful but broken world.
