Description
The Pacific Coast would appear to have endless breathtakingly beautiful locales and the north coast certainly has more than its share. Short Sands Beach is a favorite of countless visitors and locals alike and the definition of a beautiful, peaceful wonderland. This beach is largely protected from the predominate afternoon winds of summer and the north end, in the lee is usually toasty warm. Because this beach faces somewhat south, the “offshore winds” make the waves better for surfing most days in the summer.
The first summer I lived on the coast we went to this beach almost every day to surf and enjoy life. We usually came in chilled to the bone but would often rinse off the salty sea in this waterfall before warming up in the sun or around a beach fire. One of my favorite places to surf is just out of view to the left. No secret any longer, on a busy summer day you’ll need to get there early for a parking spot and a good place to spread out with family and friends for a day at the beach. This oil painting was painted out of pure love of “place”.
