Sundown Branches

I have been absorbing the atmosphere and moods of the coast all of my adult life so when I happen upon a moment of inspiration I pause to drink it in knowing a painting will likely follow. If you’ve ever watched an artist at work you’ve likely wondered where the heck it was headed. In my case I kind of “construct” if you will a painting like this because each small limb or area of the boughs affects the balance and harmony of the rest of the painting. To be honest I was kind of slogging through this one hoping it would eventually come together. It really came to life with the addition of the moss on the branches and the highlights of the boughs. Almost immediately it was done.
